Chasing Trail

Hi, and thanks for being here! I’m Taryn, the person behind (most) everything you see on the site. I live in the perpetually sunny southern Arizona desert and have two kiddos, “P” (4) and “O” (6). I have one tattoo, drink too much coffee and probably talk a little too much, always eat one-too-many tacos, work way too hard, and don’t sleep nearly enough. I also lead a very busy, full lifestyle and as the saying goes, I’ve lived a lot of life β€” which is largely why I created Chasing Trail.

2020 has been a transformative year for so many of us in both good and bad ways. I’ve always been “outdoorsy” and loved to travel, but this year it became a form of therapy for me. My church, if you will. Making an effort to unplug, get outside and explore, and just be with myself and my thoughts, as well as the people in my very small inner circle, changed me in ways I never imagined. Finally, at age…well, thirtysomething…I can honestly say I’ve come into my own. My hope is that some of you can relate!

I hope y'all aren't over seeing pics from our trip I hope y'all aren't over seeing pics from our trip to #thewave and southern Utah, 'cause I'm nowhere near finished posting them πŸ˜…

This is one of many magical archways on the Queen's Garden Trail in Bryce Canyon National Park 🀩 That light dusting of snow made it even more beautiful!
Let's talk about the infamous Angel's Landing trai Let's talk about the infamous Angel's Landing trail in #zionnationalpark

I'm still a little bit in disbelief that we did it πŸ˜…πŸ˜³ Have you done it or do you know someone who has?! In case you're unfamiliar with #angelslanding here are some interesting (terrifying lol) facts:

β€’ In just 2.5 miles, hikers climb over 1,500 feet in elevation (believe me, my quads feel every single foot of this today)
β€’ There is no part of this hike that's easy. You start on a series of switchbacks, and there's another one called Walter's Wiggles with a whopping 21 switchbacks immediately before you actually climb Angel's Landing
β€’ Several parts of "the spine" (the thin top of the ridge in the first pic) are less than a few feet wide 😳 Narrower than a sidewalk!
β€’ Chains are bolted directly into the cliff in several spots to help hikers where the drop is the steepest
β€’ Angel's Landing is consistently listed as one of the most difficult hikes in the world
β€’ Approximately 10 people have died from falling while hiking this trail - BUT on peak weekends, a couple thousand people per day do it successfully. So if it's on your bucket list, go for it!!
Have you ever had a day when you conquered somethi Have you ever had a day when you conquered something major and felt like, well, a complete badass? πŸ’ͺπŸ‘Š

That's me, right now. Angel's Landing in Zion, complete βœ”

More details on this insane hike (and entire trip!) soon, but now, we eat πŸ˜…
You've surely heard of #antelopecanyon but did you You've surely heard of #antelopecanyon but did you know there are spectacular (largely unknown) slot canyons allllllll over the Southwest?? 🀯 Particularly in southern Utah, along the UT/AZ border. This is a tiny one, maybe a half-mile long, in the middle of nowhere. Makes me want to explore more and more and more...! Is being a "slot canyon enthusiast" a thing? I'm quickly becoming one πŸ€ͺ
Just your average Thursday, hiking THE WAVE 🀯🀩
Am I the only one who reads books two at a time? πŸ˜… I have no idea why, but I've done this as long as I can remember. As an adult, it tends to be one personal or business development book and one just for me. That "just for me" could be literally anything from true crime to cringey fiction and anything in between πŸ€ͺ

The bottom book, Untethered Soul, wasn't even on my radar. It grabbed my attention in a shop in Sedona and the very next day a friend mentioned it to me, so I took that as a sign and ordered it. Any suggestions for what I should read next??

Does "liar, liar, pants on fire" come to mind for Does "liar, liar, pants on fire" come to mind for anyone else? πŸ˜…

Figured we should end this week on a light note...just before Christmas, we had a quick getaway, about 2 hours north in the mountains. Our cabin was ADORABLE, and one of the main features was an old-school wood stove.

One of us (not me 🀣) had laundry in as we were leaving town. A pair of jeans wasn't dry, but he brought them anyway and figured he'd deal with it once we got to the cabin. He set the jeans on top of the stove - not the back, where the open exhaust vents were, but over the top. He thought they'd be okay for a few minutes. They weren't.

Less than 2 minutes later, I smelled fire and the entire downstairs of the A-frame cabin was filled with smoke. The pants were very literally on fire! He was in the shower and literally missed everything 🀣 This is the aftermath...they could not be salvaged. We had to keep all the doors and windows open for about an hour, and it was in the 30s!

This is easily one of our most memorable travel stories. Anyone else with one?!
